siquijor island in the philippines blog

Siquijor Island in the Philippines has a reputation for being mysterious and full of black magic, however, this has no truth in it. It’s an amazing beautiful place to visit, with some of the most gorgeous beaches in the Philippines. The most convenient way to get to Siquijor Island is by ferry from the City of Dumaguete in Negros Oriental. There are regular ferry trips here and at the pier you can pick up last minute snacks.

Once you arrive at Siquijor Island pier some of the resorts can organize pick ups, otherwise, there are multi-cabs and tricycles that will take you to your designated resort. It’s fairly regulated here and there are set prices for tricycles and multi-cabs. You can also organize renting motorbikes at the pier and the prices range from 250 to 300 pesos depending on the number of days you’ll need the bike and how good your negotiation skills are. It’s fairly easy to ride around the island due to the fact that there is not much traffic.

There’s basically two main areas you can stay in Siquijor Island. The most popular and where there is the most concentration of resorts is San Juan. The beaches and sunsets hear are heavenly. Most of the resorts found around this area are for simple cottages by the beach. Some cottages even have their own kitchens. The other area you can stay at on the island with considerably less tourists is the area north of Larena. However, both these places have extremely beautiful beaches and it’s still a mystery as to why this island is not as popular as it really should be.

Other things to see on Siquijor Island are a couple of waterfalls, an old belletti tree which is said to be about four hundred years old, a butterfly garden in the mountains, the Cantabon cave (although here you’ll have to walk through some underground streams), natural springs at the Capilay Spring park, old historical buildings such as the St Francis of Assisi Church Bell Tower and the San Isidro Labrador Convent and many more. Siquior Island is a wonderful vacation and holiday destination and it’s a mystery as to why it hasn’t garnered a lot more popularity among tourists than it deserves.
